🦊 Firefox Fix

Why Firefox needs a fix

Firefox uses DNS over HTTPS (DoH) by default, which routes DNS queries through Mozilla's servers instead of your router's DNS. This bypasses Silver Shield. The fix takes 30 seconds and only needs to be done once per device.

All other browsers — Chrome, Safari, Edge, Opera — work with Silver Shield automatically. No changes needed.



Getting Started



Router DNS Settings

Your Silver Shield device will display its IP address during setup. Use that IP as your Primary DNS in the steps below.

TP-Link Routers
Log into your router at 192.168.0.1 → Advanced → Network → DHCP Server → Set Primary DNS to your Silver Shield IP → Save.
Asus Routers
Log into your router at 192.168.1.1 → LAN → DHCP Server → DNS Server 1 → Enter your Silver Shield IP → Apply.
Netgear Routers
Log into your router at 192.168.1.1 → Advanced → Setup → LAN Setup → Primary DNS → Enter your Silver Shield IP → Apply.
Other routers
Look for DHCP Server settings in your router admin panel. Find the Primary DNS or DNS Server 1 field and enter your Silver Shield device IP. If you can't find it, contact us and we'll help.


Dashboard Guide

How do I access my dashboard?
Go to silvershield.local on any device connected to your home network. Log in with your Silver Shield account email and password.
How do I whitelist a domain?
In your dashboard scroll to the Whitelist section. Type the domain name (e.g. example.com) and click Add. The domain will be unblocked within seconds. Your whitelist is never overwritten by blocklist updates.
How does bedtime scheduling work?
Bedtime scheduling is a Premium feature. Go to your dashboard → Bedtime Schedule section. Set your weekday and weekend times, then click Enable. During bedtime hours gaming, social media, and streaming platforms are blocked in addition to adult content.
How do I pause filtering temporarily?
Click the Pause Filtering button in the status bar at the top of your dashboard. Filtering will pause immediately and can be resumed at any time. Your Silver Shield device and dashboard remain accessible while filtering is paused.
How do I update the blocklist manually?
Go to the Blocklist section in your dashboard and click Update Blocklist Now. The update runs in the background and takes about a minute. Your blocklist also updates automatically every Sunday at 3am.


Common Questions

A site I need is being blocked. What do I do?
Whitelist it from your dashboard. Go to silvershield.local → Whitelist a Domain → type the domain and click Add. It will be unblocked within seconds.
silvershield.local isn't loading in my browser.
Make sure you're connected to your home network. Try flushing your DNS cache (on Windows: run ipconfig /flushdns in Command Prompt). Also make sure your Silver Shield device is powered on and the ethernet cable is connected to your router. If filtering is paused, try resuming it — filtering pause is required for silvershield.local to resolve correctly.
My internet stopped working after setup.
Check that your Silver Shield device is powered on and the ethernet cable is securely connected to your router. If the device is off, your router should fall back to its secondary DNS automatically. Contact us if the issue persists.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Visit silvshield.com/billing and log in to manage your subscription. You can cancel at any time. Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period.
